Ed Gill---My brother Mike was also on the Turner, must have been him. I don't remember any damage to me. I think Ernest Walker(from Tennessee) was the ships laundry person at the time. Nice to hear from somebody who remembers the name....

Served as yeoman in 1949 during one-year enlistment. Also throttled the whaleboat in Newport -- mostly picking up tipsy officers in the fog. Enjoyed the company of shipmate Nick Sarafolean. I haven't visited Commander Turner's grave here in Baltimore as yet, but plan to do so. Greetings to all.

I'm looking for any information on one of your shipmates: Frank Dwyer who was on the ship 1947-53. I have a picture of him with a couple of his Navy Buddies-that are on the roster.

Served on board late 67 early 68 in 1st div. Left ship in June 68 for sunny Southeast Asia. Saw Joe Levine in Camp Tien Sha at EM club one night, still wonder where he is today(he might still be there since beer was only 20 cents a can). Also remember Lester Paul T., Hurricane Hayes, Handsome Hal Gunther, Mad Dog Bennett, Gilpin, Ernest "Big O" Walker and many more.

what a shame that no one signs the guest book and I can only read the last 5 that did. I liked the old book much better.

My Grandfather, the late WT2 Robert L King served on the Turner. He passed away in 1994 taking many memories of his service with him. All I knew growing up was that Grandpa's ship was sunk in WWII. I was only 10 at the time, so that was enough detail for me. I am 28 now with 8 years in the OH Army National Guard and a tour in Afghanistan. Since joining the Army, and growing up a little bit, I have wondered what stories he would have to tell me. Maybe someday we will get to have that conversation. Until then, rest easy Grandpa! I have carried and will continue to carry your legacy of service as long as the powers that be will allow. I salute those fallen comrades of yours that lost their lives that day in 1944. Thank you all for paving the way, and for being excellent examples of what heroes are.
