I'm looking for any information on one of your shipmates: Frank Dwyer who was on the ship 1947-53. I have a picture of him with a couple of his Navy Buddies-that are on the roster.

Served on board late 67 early 68 in 1st div. Left ship in June 68 for sunny Southeast Asia. Saw Joe Levine in Camp Tien Sha at EM club one night, still wonder where he is today(he might still be there since beer was only 20 cents a can). Also remember Lester Paul T., Hurricane Hayes, Handsome Hal Gunther, Mad Dog Bennett, Gilpin, Ernest "Big O" Walker and many more.

what a shame that no one signs the guest book and I can only read the last 5 that did. I liked the old book much better.

My Grandfather, the late WT2 Robert L King served on the Turner. He passed away in 1994 taking many memories of his service with him. All I knew growing up was that Grandpa's ship was sunk in WWII. I was only 10 at the time, so that was enough detail for me. I am 28 now with 8 years in the OH Army National Guard and a tour in Afghanistan. Since joining the Army, and growing up a little bit, I have wondered what stories he would have to tell me. Maybe someday we will get to have that conversation. Until then, rest easy Grandpa! I have carried and will continue to carry your legacy of service as long as the powers that be will allow. I salute those fallen comrades of yours that lost their lives that day in 1944. Thank you all for paving the way, and for being excellent examples of what heroes are.

Hi, I represent the family of Donald Karl and am looking for some information regarding his time on board the U.S.S. Turner. Mr. Karl was stationed on the U.S.S Turner from 1953-1958 and worked as a deck hand and cook. I found your contact information through the ship’s online database and was hoping you could provide me with some information.

Any information would be helpful, whether you knew Mr. Karl personally or just have some general information about your time on the ship. Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Sincerely,

Michael Burke

MY UNCLE, SEAMAN 2ND CLASS CECIL HOUSTON WALLACE, WAS KILLED ABOARD THE USS TURNER DD-648 ON 3 JAN 1944. THE OLDEST OFF 5 CHILDREN, HE WAS WELL RESPECTED BY HIS BROTHERS & SISTERS, AS WELL AS THE FOLKS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. HE WAS KNOWN AROUND PIEDMONT AS THE "LITTLE MULE" BECAUSE OF HIS STRONG BUILD AND HIS ABILITY TO KEEP ORDER. HIS FRIENDS RELATED THIS TO ME WHEN I WAS OLD ENOUGH TO START ASKING QUESTIONS. OUR FAMILY HAS A LONG AND DEVOTED MILITARY SERVICE HISTORY. CSA, WW1, WWII, KOREA, VIETNAM, COLD WAR, SW ASIA, AND WHAT'S NEXT. WE ARE THERE. THANKS TO ALL OTHERS WHO WERE WITH US.

The original guest book was hosted by Lycos but is no longer operational. They stopped this service in April of 2012. We have set up a new guest book for the USS Turner.
